Happy 2019 everyone!

There is a lot on the horizon! This is taking much of my focus, currently…

March 9 - The California Jazz Conservatory (Berkeley, CA)
Making the Leap from Classical to Jazz Singing Master Class

March 11 - Saddleback College (Mission Viejo, CA)
Performance and Master Class

March 14 - The Blue Guitar (South Pasadena, CA)

March 16 - Open House Concert (San Diego, CA)
For location, details and reservations please contact Michael Oyster at

This March marks my first tour of California, a period that, in this part of the world… could possibly be perceived as early spring! (Growing up in Canada, this is admittedly hard to grasp.) I’m excited to make music with, for, and to teach an entirely new cast of characters in such a spectacularly beautiful location…

I’ll be joined by the intensely musical, poetry savvy southern California based pianist and composer Jeremy Siskind!

We’ll be premiering new material from my sparkly mastered as- yet- unreleased third CD, “The One and the Other”, along with songs from my sophomore album “Whose Shadow?” (2014, Inner Circle Music) plus some interesting interpretations of standards and non standards.

The Bay Area

March 8‒ Red Poppy Art House, San Francisco

Our tour begins with a duo performance at San Francisco’s Red Poppy Art House. Seating is limited in this very cool listening room! Please visit for advanced ticket sales and other details

March 9, Master Class‒The California Jazz Conservatory, Berkeley

I’ll be giving a vocal master class at The California Jazz Conservatory that is open for public registration, on a dense subject that I have obviously spent a considerable amount of time pondering and negotiating: Making the Leap From Classical to Jazz Singing is geared primarily for the experienced classically trained vocalist who has made the bold decision to cross over to the dark side. This class will offer a lot of technical information about technique, along with exercises for phrasing, swing and improvisation and finally ways to learn to hear yourself objectively in order to self- regulate your practice regime. For more information and registration please visit:

March 11‒ Performance and Master Class, Saddleback College, Mission Viejo

Jeremy and I then drive down the coast to Mission Viejo South of Los Angeles, for a performance and master class for students in the voice program at Saddleback College. The concert at The McKinney Theatre is open to the public. For tickets and details, please visit

March 14‒ The Blue Guitar Room, Arroyo Seco Golf Course, South Pasadena

Next, we will be joined by excellent Los Angeles bassist Henry Beal for a trio jazz show at The Blue Guitar Room. Please visit The Blue Guitar Room for all information.

March 15 and March 16‒ Two House Concerts in San Diego

Our tour ends with two House Concert in San Diego that are open to the public.
You are invited to catch us up close and personal. For the secret addresses, to reserve seating and all other pertinent details, please email

For March 15‒Deborah Wolfe at

For March 16‒Michael Oyster at

I hope to see you at one of the above events!

US Mini Tour!

I have just returned from performances in New York City, at The Cornelia Street Cafe (Feb. 6) and The Cell (Feb. 10), at Grasso's (Feb. 9) in Cold Spring Harbor, NY and at the historic Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania. A time of beautiful music and much laughter! It was exciting to debut some new originals featured in "The One and the Other" and see how the audiences responded. A great success all round.

Thank you Hot House, New York’s premier jazz guide, for this lovely blurb in the Spotlight section, February 2018:

“Lara Solnicki’s range alone has been captivating listeners since she began her career—but it’s her vulnerability and intimate connection to the lyric that resonates beyond the limits of her upper and lower registers. Each spontaneous interpretation of standard and original repertoire teems with individualism and vocal mastery".

2015: A Year of Change

Hello! It's been some time since I updated my News page... This is due to the capricious nature of 2015! Here's what I've been up to:

"Whose Shadow? " Joins the Inimitable Greg Osby's Inner Circle Music Record Label!

A fortuitous meeting with master musician Greg Osby in New York in January, resulted in an offer for my sophomore album “Whose Shadow?” to join his label, Inner Circle Music! I'm thrilled and honoured to be 1 of 7 vocalists, and 1 of 2 Canadians on this wonderful, international label!

With #1 songs on CBC and Radio Canada jazz charts, and top 20 songs on international jazz web radio charts, "Whose Shadow?" has been enjoying some international success! It was just featured in JAZZIZ Magazine's spring 2015 issue, with a song in their CD sampler. Please visit my Press page for new international reviews.

"The One and the Other" Song Cycle

A great big thank you to the Toronto Arts Council for The Music Creation Grant I was awarded in December 2014. Scheduled for completion August 15, 2015, [two year old] dreams, images and sensory memory are being fused into the epic, episodic, dreamscape poetic song cycle "The One and the Other". From contemporary jazz to recited poetry with program music, it is my most ambitious creation project to date. Stay tuned!

Performances, Performances!

Thank you Lula Lounge for a wonderful evening performing with Ted Quinlan and Jim Vivian in the TD Toronto Jazz Festival June 23! Present was one of the most focused and attentive concert-seeking audiences I've encountered in my career! Speaking of quiet dinner rooms, I'm very much looking forward to my debut at Bloom Restaurant October 29, with Ted Quinlan and George Koller. Bloom offers excellent Nuovo Latino cuisine and a wonderful intimate concert environment. For reservations and details, please visit

"Whose Shadow?" Starts Receiving Wonderful Press

Reviews of my sophomore album "Whose Shadow?" (released March 30) are just beginning to come in (and regularly updated on my Press page). I was floored to receive a truly remarkable review (also the first from the USA!) from Everett. R. Davis at All About Jazz:

"She has emerged from the Canadian scene with a spellbinding voice...with boldly unique style and a vocal attitude of her own. With exceptional tonal control and her mastery of inflection, Lara Solnicki has without doubt, charted her vocal journey, affirming her position as a world class jazz singer."

"Whose Shadow?" Released to a Full House ! ! !

My sophomore CD, "Whose Shadow?" was launched Sunday March 30 to a full house at Toronto's elegant Jazz Bistro, in a concert featuring the album's producer and bass player, George Koller, pianist Mark Kieswetter and John Johnson on tenor and soprano saxophones, bass clarinet and flute.

It's been three years since George and I planted the first seeds over expressos in Leslieville!

Thank you to the wonderful designers Deborah Korosec of Studio Gang for the exquisite clothes, and Louisa LaBarbera for providing the wonderful bling! Big thanks also to Josef Hochleitner for the dramatic photos!

"Whose Shadow?" is an eclectic and enchanting album about metamorphosis and influence, and the conscious and unconscious shaping of an artist. It is now available to be purchased through me directly, by emailing, and will be available on itunes and CD Baby by the end of next week. Several short excerpts of songs have uploaded to my website.

Our first follow up concert is taking place tomorrow evening, April 5: I am very excited to have my debut both in Guelph, Ontario and at the Manhattans jazz club, with my trio: including Ted Quinlan, guitar and George Koller, bass. More about "Whose Shadow?"

Produced by multi-instrumentalist and producer George Koller (Holly Cole, Bruce Cockburn, Loreena McKennitt), the album features my original compositions, along with more traditional jazz fare, jazz arrangements of classical music - Maurice Ravel and Henry Purcell, art pop – Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, Kate Bush and more...

Along with my vocals, compositions and co-arrangements, there are beautiful performances from many of Canada's finest jazz musicians: Mark Kieswetter- piano, rhodes and arrangements, George Koller- acoustic and electric bass, Ted Quinlan- guitar, Nick Fraser- drums, John Johnson- tenor and soprano sax, flute and bass clarinet, Lina Allemano- trumpet, Ernie Tollar- bansuri Flute and Davide DiRenzo-percussion.

The album was recorded by Grammy nominated engineer Jeremy Darby at The Canterbury Music Company, and was mastered by the award-winning David Travers-Smith. Stanley Péan, Novelist and Host of Quand le jazz est là (Radio Canada, Espace Musique), has written the bilingual liner notes.

Wow, what a milestone!
